Today was a very fun day at Peace Pals. I was really close to not going because of school work, but I am so glad I went because once I got there, the same children I interacted with last time ended up being super excited that I came. I helped one of the girls with her reading and then helped one of the other kids with his math homework. That was a bit difficult because I am not that great at math and neither was he so helping him was very tedious and time consuming, but worth it especially after learning that he usually tries to finish his homework at PEACE PALS since his mom is unable to help him because she does not speak English and he is not able to translate it for her.
Today was a bit difficult because of the rain which caused a lot of confusion. But nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at PEACE PALS. I created a relationship with the fourth graders especially engaging them in the activity we were doing today - making maracas! I was able to have fun with the kids while also making sure they took care of their homework and got to read. I loved being able to help the kindergarteners with their homework especially since I have nephews the same age so I am experienced in teaching that grade level. The program itself is a great atmosphere for children and volunteers.
I got to CTH early to help set up and then afterwards as a site leader for MLP, I got to facilitate my own group at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. We spent the day painting railings to make the church more beautiful and help out the church youth group. We had a very positive experience and I got the chance to meet a lot of different people and bond with my group.
I helped with the community movie night event
I helped sort donations of canned food and clothes for the St. Vicent de Paul pantry at Holy Rosary. I also did some office work and helped organize the front desk
I helped with the toddler age division by making sure that the toddlers were fed and that they were entertained with arts and crafts and different games
I played games with the 3-5 year old division and helped them with dinner and arts and crafts time
