40 Days of Lent and Service is a city-wide effort bringing together Catholic institutions of learning and Catholic Charities of San Antonio. See below for opportunities to get involved this 40 Days of Lent and Service.

Cards for a Cause

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join Civic Engagement in the UC Atrium every Tuesday and Wednesday of Lent to make greeting cards for people in need in our San Antonio Community. We will be in the UC Atrium from 11:00 am – 2:00pm.

Every Tuesday & Wednesday of Lent (Feb. 15-March 29)

Feb 20th & 21st: Cards for the Marianist Residence.

Feb 27th & 28th: Cards for teen girls and their children who are living at Seton Home.

March 6th & 7th: Cards for the Veterans at the VA hospital.

March 20th & 21st: Cards for the children living at the St. Pj’s Children’s Home.

March 27th & 28th: Cards for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Can Drive

Every Thursday, join Civic Engagement in the UC Atrium to collect cans and non-perishables from 11:00am -2:00pm. Additional collection bins will be present in residence halls and throughout campus at various events. Donations will be given to Catholic Charities, Guadalupe Community Center to help stock their Food Pantry, and as St. Mary’s participation in 40 Cans for Lent.

Care Packages for the Children’s Shelter Donation Drive

A month long donation for items needed for The Children Shelter. Boxes will be put out at the beginning of Lent, February 15th, around the building, allowing residents to donate items. On March 23rd, the staff will pick up all donations and package them for delivery on March 24th.

Collection Location: Founders Hall

Date Collection: February 15th – March 24th

 

Penny Wars in Marian Hall

Each floor will represent a charity in which we will be making a donation to. For the floor that raises the most in the name of that charity, we as a staff and with some residents will volunteer at that charity. We will be volunteering during that last week of Lent. The floors will be listed as

1st Floor - Catholic Charities (SA)

2nd East - San Antonio Food Bank

2nd West - Meals on Wheels (SA)

3rd Floor - Ronald McDonald House
